When I am King

This web comic I found rather funny. The simplistic illustrations made me kind of reading this as joke but as soon as I got started reading I really scrolling through them. I really like that they had no words. It very much fit for the layout and medium, which made them at least for me something to enjoy. Having never really read web comics, I know sort of feel as if they are there just a good chuckle. I am firm believer that most things we should be accustom to reading should not be on a screen .

Sin City

HOLY SHIT! I first have to say that I had seen the movie before I read this, and I loved both. Sin City is one of my favorite movies ever. The acting, the story, the cinematography was all brilliant!

On that note. The graphic novel was just as amazing! I really enjoyed getting even deeper into the story. Each of the the different stories intertwine just beautifully in the scene. I really do not what else to say. I feel like everyone has seen this movie and I  highly suggest that they read the comic to get even more punches and craziness.

Daniel Clowes: Ghost World

I did not really care for this one. However it really helped me a visual storyteller to really think about how to make character interaction believable. The composition each panel really helped that aspect also. As well as also stop and think about my teenage years and how stupidly angsty for no reason I was.

Clowe's really captures the teenage essence of being born into a general American suburb. The story was very well written. However much I did not really like this graphic novel I will probably have to read it again at some point again in my life, if I were ever to do a movie or short film about teenage problems; or even just for general character interaction. The clever way it was written is genius.

Persepolis

I really liked this one. I found it really interesting that the author Marjane Satrapi, is very proud and comfortable sharing about her tragic life and the terrible things she had experienced, watching her family die, and people being tortured. To me thats terrifying and the fact that she shared it with us, very proudly is very interesting to me.

The story itself was brilliant and really hit home for with a reality that still goes on today. I dove right into the story and couldn't stop reading. This is definitely a graphic narrative that could easily be converted into a movie and be very successful.

One of the things the novel left me thinking about was an idea that terrifies me is that children can easily adapt to their surroundings, no matter how terrible they are. Simply because they have no idea how things would be without.

Plastic Man

Plastic Man was  a great read. I breezed right through several issues in what felt like no time at all. The panels do get a tad confusing. But being in Motion Design, this comic seemed very animated. All of the implied actions really help sell the idea that Plastic Man can do all those amazing tricks and still make it believable. In between articles I stopped to think about how out there really is to create such a stretchy super hero.

The overall plot of each of the comic kind of reminded me of Captain Planet's theme sort of mixed with Mr. Incredible. I really liked the message and the crime stopping action packed stories.

The illustrations were really great and almost interactive with the reader. It was an excellent read.

The Watchmen

I have to be honest. Before taking this class a friend told me that if I read the graphic novel and watched the movie I would hate it. So of course I had already seen the movie and I have to say I agree with my friend. I have such a huge appreciation for the graphic novel now after watching the movie and reading the novel.

I really like the plot and have a new favorite character Rorschach he is amazing, his attitude is just badass. I am kinda bummed that he gets killed in the end.

As far as it compared to the movie, the characters were a tad different then their counterparts in the graphic novel. I really enjoyed the plot and the way each medium told the story.

Underground Comics: Yellow Dogs

Yellow Dogs was hilarious. Many of the issues are extremely funny sexual situations. I really enjoyed how most of the issues bounced around and really drifted from what the issue seemed to be focused about.

I did not know what to really expect after reading this week's assignment of underground comics. I was kind of thinking they were mostly going to be about drugs and tattoos and other taboo related subjects. But after reading just a few of the Yellow Dog comics, I found them to be extremely sexual and full of poop jokes, which were rather funny.
